Our talented team is at the heart of everything we do at Bubble, and it’s the people behind the work that truly make the difference. That’s why we love shining a spotlight on the individuals you’ll collaborate with when you partner with us.

This month, we’re catching up with Ellie, one of our Content Writers, to learn more about her role and the thinking behind the content she creates for our clients. From SEO-optimised website copy and blogs to landing pages and wider digital content, Ellie helps businesses communicate their brand, connect with their audiences and improve their visibility online. We also get to know a little more about Ellie outside of work – including a few fun facts you can bring up the next time you chat with her!

1. Can you tell us a little about your role at Bubble and what a typical day looks like for you?

My role as a Content Writer at Bubble involves writing content for new websites, blogs, newsletters, and landing pages. I regularly meet with clients to understand their project goals, audience, and industry.

The great thing about my role is that every single day is so different, so there is no β€˜typical day’ to be honest! One 8 hour shift could be filled with a project kick off meeting with a client for a new web project, writing a monthly newsletter, and catching up with the Content Team, while another day is dedicated time to research the best UX structure for a page on a new website, completing SEO keyword research for said page, and finally writing and proofreading it ready for our designers to work with.

2. What do you enjoy most about being a Content Writer, and what inspired you to pursue a career in content?

When I was a kid, I always said I wanted to be a fictional author when I grew up, because I just loved reading so much and was very inspired by many writers, and that is still the case. I even used to write my own little stories (which I wish I still did)! This passion for writing has just evolved as I got older. I studied English Literature at uni and that helped me get started in my career and understand which route I wanted to go down, and I’ve worked in both journalism and in-house marketing.

Working as a Content Writer at an agency means I get to write for a variety of industries which keeps every project so fresh for new creativity. I love writing for different audiences and getting to write in different tones of voice about different things. That’s what I enjoy the most – getting creative with something I’ve been passionate about since I was a child!

3. How do you approach creating content that is both engaging for the reader and effective from an SEO perspective?

I think it’s important to give equal priority to engagement and SEO as they’re both so crucial for website content – they’re two sides of the same coin. Great on-page SEO copy brings the traffic onto your site, while a great reader experience keeps them on the page and drives leads.

SEO keyword research is always one of the first steps when I write content for websites, landing pages or blogs, especially looking at keyword intent, not just volume and keyword difficulty. I make a bank of these keywords and keep referring back to them while I’m carrying out other industry research to help me better understand the target audience. Those keywords often help with the direction of my research too with knowing exactly what industry-specific phrases to use.

Ultimately, I always write for user experience and engagement first, then integrate those keywords into places where it especially matters most – headers, FAQs, meta information, etc.

4. How important is it to understand a client’s audience, brand and objectives when creating content for them?

I’d say it’s just as important as writing content with high-volume, low-competition keywords in mind.

You could create an incredibly well-written piece of content in a tone of voice that really stands out, but if it isn’t written with your audience’s interests and motivations in mind, then it’s not going to do much and you won’t reach the people that it’s actually intended for. Same if you write content in a style that’s completely out-there for your brand and doesn’t align with what your typical audience is expecting from you – it’s just going to get lost and not deliver any results.

5. What types of content do you most enjoy creating – whether that’s website copy, blogs, landing pages or something else?

I do have a soft spot for writing blogs because I actually used to have my own! I currently have three clients with a monthly blog strategy and there’s a lot of satisfaction in seeing the results and numbers go up every month from the work I’ve written for them. I really enjoy coming up with new ideas and regularly collaborating with clients to see what is working and what else we can focus on.

6. What do you think makes a really great piece of website content?

79% of people actually scan website content rather than reading it word-for-word. Knowing that, I think what makes a great piece of website content is for it to be broken up into easy-to-digest information – bullet points, cards, or stand-out facts – with engaging titles that direct your audience of where to read next. And a great piece of content should always align with your audience’s expectations of your brand to keep their trust in you.

7. What’s your favourite thing about working at Bubble, and what do you enjoy about being part of the Content team?

The support at Bubble is fantastic. Whether I’m struggling with work or some personal life problems, there’s always someone there to talk to. You spend nearly everyday with the people you work with, and I’m so lucky to work somewhere where every colleague is so lovely and easy to chat to – everyone is always ready to lend a helping hand or listening ear!

The Content team is amazing to be a part of for the same reasons. We have catch ups every Friday just chatting through how our week has been, what we’ve got coming up, what we’re up to over the weekend, and we just generally chat about life and we feel more like friends than colleagues. We’re always there to help and uplift each other. Plus we’re all hilarious, so there’s never a dull day when you’re sat with the Content team!

8. What’s something you enjoy doing outside of work that your colleagues or clients might not know about you?

I don’t do it as often as I like, but I’ve always really enjoyed playing games. I’m currently on my second run-through of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and I’ve already put in a lot of hours on Baldur’s Gate 3. When we have friends over, I’m always the first to suggest a board or card game – my personal favourite is Wyrmspan!

9. What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?

Ideal day off would involve taking my dog on a nice long walk out in a beautiful country park or forest, grabbing some good food and drinks with friends, and going to a gig on the evening.

10. If you could instantly master any new skill or hobby, what would it be and why?

I’d love to be fluent in another language, ideally Greek, Italian or German – they’re my favourite countries to go on holiday to and I wish I could speak the language to get around places and read menus easier!
