Bubble Big 50km Walk

On Friday 28th March, the Bubble Design team swapped our desks and Macs for walking boots and backpacks to take on a huge challenge — our very own 50km Walk for the Eve Merton Dreams Trust!

And we’re delighted (and a little bit achy) to say… we smashed it!

Why did we do it? 🎯

2025 marks a special milestone for Bubble; it’s our 25th year in business 🥳

Instead of just celebrating with just some cake (don’t worry, we still had cake!), we wanted to do something meaningful, something that would leave a positive mark.

That’s why we took on this challenge: to raise funds and awareness for a charity close to our hearts.

The Eve Merton Dreams Trust is a Doncaster-based charity that supports local families affected by cancer, granting wishes and creating memories during incredibly tough times. Their work is inspiring, and we’re so proud to have played our part in supporting them.

Another reason we chose Eve Merton Dreams Trust was our connection with Club Doncaster through our Club 100 Silver Partnership. As they’re Club Doncaster’s official charity partner, supporting Eve’s Trust felt like a natural way to give something back to the local community. You can learn more about what our partnership means here.

“We weren’t just walking for ourselves, we were walking for a cause that mattered. The support from the Eve Merton Dreams Trust throughout the day reminded us why we started and gave us the motivation to push through. I’m extremely proud to have been a part of such an incredible day.” – Emily, Social Team Lead

You can learn more about the brilliant work they do here in our recent blog post.

The challenge: 50km on foot 👣

The route? Well, it wasn’t exactly a casual Friday stroll…

We set off bright and early — and when we say early, we mean 4:30am alarms ringing in our ears. Bleary-eyed but determined, we gathered at the Bubble Office in Retford, ready to tackle the day ahead.

“I kept telling myself it’s just 32 1-mile walks! So much harder than I initially thought it would be, but it was such a special day spending time with the team outside of the office environment!” – Chris, Managing Director

We set off at 7am sharp, heading out on foot towards Eco-Power Stadium, home of Doncaster Rovers. After a quick breather at the halfway point to take in the stadium, we turned straight around and walked all the way back. No shortcuts, no taxis, just plenty of determination (and a lot of snacks).

We know what you’re thinking — why not complete 25km for our 25th birthday? We never do anything half-heartedly here at Bubble, whether it’s our design projects, website builds or running our clients’ social media strategies. So it’s only right we went all-out for this fantastic charity too!

“Feeling very proud to have been a part of this event for such an amazing charity. After completing the walk, we went home with a few blisters, woke up with aches and pains but then our daily life kicked back in. The families that Eve’s Trust help don’t get to carry on with daily life and that is the thought I maintained throughout the day whilst being supported by the most incredible team – a day that will stay with me forever.” – Nic, Commercial Director

To put it in context:

👣 It’s roughly 70,000 steps.
⌛ It took us around 12 hours of solid walking.
🔥 We burned through about 4,000 calories, each (which we absolutely made up for in biscuits and snacks).
⛰️ You’d have to climb up and down Ben Nevis around 18 times to cover the same total distance—though thankfully, we stuck to flatter ground.
🤯 You’d need to lay down almost 6 Mount Everest’s end to end to match the distance we covered.

“Bubble’s 50k walk was definitely one of the hardest challenges I have ever faced (both mentally and physically) but I would do it all again for that sense of pride and achievement when crossing the finishing line! I am proud to say that we are going to make a valuable and significant difference to local families” – Freya, Web Support

And the weather? Classic British springtime — a bit of everything: wind, drizzle, sunshine. But we powered on, fuelled by a cracking playlist, team banter, and the promise of a cold drink at the end.

The best part? The entire Bubble team got involved.

“Such an amazing and important charity to help; they are worth every step we took as a team and I don’t think any one of us would take back a single blister or sore muscle.” – Darren, Account Director

Many of us walked the full 50km, others tackled as much as they could, but every one of us showed up, gave it our absolute best, and put in a truly valiant effort to keep each other going.

None of us would call ourselves seasoned walkers. In fact, for most of us, this was way outside the comfort zone, but that’s what made it special. It wasn’t about personal bests or breaking records; it was about pulling together, pushing ourselves, and supporting an amazing cause.

“As we approached the Eco-Power Stadium, I was in absolute agony with my feet and thought to myself I physically can’t keep going – I even shed a few tears as I was so overwhelmed! But when everyone was preparing to start the walk back, I thought to myself I need to keep going and I am so glad I did. I feel so proud that we as a team have raised money for such a beautiful charity and I can’t wait to see the smiles of the people we’ve helped.” – Lucy, Financial Director

How much did we raise? 💰

Here’s the bit we’re most proud of:

Thanks to the generosity of friends, family, clients, and supporters, we’ve raised an amazing £4,000 — completely smashing our original target of £2,500.

169 supporters helped us get there, whether they donated, shared our page, or cheered us on from the sidelines. We’re so grateful.

“Despite how painful it was, especially towards the end, it was all worth it because we raised an amazing amount of money for a well-deserving charity, and it also enabled me to learn about myself as a person and to build bonds with a team that I’m still relatively new to. Well worth the literal blood, sweat and tears!” – Asia, Creative Designer

Knowing that the hard work we put in will help make dreams come true for people during some of their darkest moments makes all the pain and effort worth it, and we can’t thank you enough for your donations.

And there’s still time to time to help us raise even more!

Final thoughts

This walk wasn’t just about the distance or the donations (though both were pretty epic). It was about coming together as a team, stepping out of the day-to-day, and doing something that matters.

Rhys Fowler Profile Photo

“50km, aching legs, and a whole lot of pain—but all for an incredible cause. Couldn’t be prouder of the whole team for pushing through, lifting each other up, and making a real difference for Eve’s Trust! It proved that together, we can conquer anything!” Rhys, Head of Web Design

It’s fair to say our legs are still recovering, but our hearts are full.

Here’s to 25 years of Bubble — and to celebrating in a way that makes a real difference.
