The Challenge

The challenge was to develop a spoof ad campaign that was almost too good to be true, the concept had to be feasible if we wanted the campaign to become viral and get people talking! It was important that we didn’t put the reputation of Fletchers Waste at risk but we wanted to demonstrate to their audience that the business has a playful and mischievous sense of humour whilst being Yorkshire’s leading skip hire and waste management facility.

The Solution

We kicked proceedings off with the name ‘Inflataskip’, a revolutionary, new inflatable skip that is flat packed and sent to customers in the post, guaranteeing to save them money whilst offering environmental savings by reducing the number of skip wagons on the road, the most cost effective way of disposing waste.

Big John at Breakfast tricks 1000’s of listeners live on Hallam FM with the InflataSkip April Fools ad campaign!

The Process

Working closely with Fletchers we developed a script that would convince the audience that the revolutionary new InflataSkip was in fact a real product, available to purchase from the 1st April. Key message such as ‘Will the skip burst?’, ‘Why should I use InflataSkip?’, ‘What can I put in InflataSkip?’ and ‘How can I get hold of InflataSkip?’ were structured into the campaign which was used across all touchpoints including video, blog posts, press releases, internal/external company newsletters and social media channel graphics! It was important that we didn’t lose sight of the campaign mischievousness so we developed humorous messaging that was almost inconceivable!

Delivery

Results that exceed all of our expectations and were better than we could have ever imagined!

The world’s first inflatable skip reached 30,000 people on Facebook and even managed to fool others in the industry into believing it was real on LinkedIn. The product release was covered by Lets Recycle, Sheffield Star and Skip Hire Magazine, the latter shared over 100 times from their website. Amazingly, over 200 people clicked ‘buy now’ and tried to order the InflataSkip, with multiple people also ringing the offices and messaging through Facebook. One of the best parts of the day was Hallam FM choosing to discuss the InflataSkip on air as part of their April Fools jokes. Midway through the breakfast show, Big John announced he will be doing some work on his garden over the Easter Bank Holiday and had the perfect skip for the job – the InflataSkip! Like many, Liesl Soards was fooled live on the air and believed this was a real product by Fletchers Waste!

An exceptional standard

We recently worked with Bubble Design to put together an April Fools Campaign where we launched an Inflatable Skip. Bubble put together a graphic of an Inflatable Skip and a promotional video for us. The graphics and the video were made to an exceptional standard which far surpassed our expectations. The team worked with us to finalise the script with a voice over artist and created an animated video for us which was really funny. The guys were proactive and extremely responsive and the campaign was a great success all for a very reasonable price too.
